In cooperation with SORAVIA, CMb.industries applied for the former Wolfganggasse coach house in the 12th district in 2017 and was awarded the contract by Wohnfonds Wien. In the course of this, a utilization concept was developed and interim management was assumed. Today, Gleis//Garten offers an epicurean variety with 9 food stalls, its own brewery, two bars and a newly opened guest garden. Events and weekend brunches take place under palm trees in Vienna’s first food market.
The Remise has been transformed from a transportation hub into a cultural and culinary hub as well as a community activity hotspot. The high housing density on the site brings many people together, so there should also be enough space to make and maintain social contacts, meet each other, get to know each other, celebrate parties – and do so as comfortably as possible and without much organizational effort. What in rural areas are barbecue evenings with friends, the market square in the center, the Kirtag in the town center, must be reinterpreted in an urban context and cast in an innovative concept. The function of a tram has always had to do with bringing together people from different backgrounds and walks of life. In a streetcar, nations, cultures and biographies meet at random. New and unexpected things can arise here. The new utilization concept takes up this function and integrates it into the new context that is being created on the Eichenstraße/Wolfganggasse site.
As a district center, the Remise is aimed at the residents of the surrounding residential area and the Gründerzeit Meidling. Located on the main square of the new residential district, it reinterprets the traditional triumvirate of church, fountain and innkeeper of the central European village center and offers modernized services for body and soul. Through a varied use of the Remise and a strong integration of the surrounding square, the aim is to give the district life a center.
