“A decent woman still knits her own stockings!”
Inspired by the 1878 World’s Fair, a young Carl Albert Greiner euphorically tells his wife about the outstanding machines he was able to marvel at there. In particular, he sensed entrepreneurial potential in a knitting machine and a cork cutting machine. “A decent woman still knits her own stockings!” – was Emilie Greiner’s brash reply. The foundation stone was laid for what is now a globally successful company.
Not an urban legend, but the true beginning of a great story. This can be read in the more than 700-page chronicle of the Greiner family. The tranquil house in Nürtingen (Baden-Württemberg), where the family sold the first bottles with cork stoppers, still exists today and is still owned by the family. CMb.industries took a look around and thought about a possible further development of the site.
